Stairwell Feature, Cancer & Haematology Centre
Installed in 2009 is a commission for an installation in the new Cancer & Haematology Centre on the Churchill Hospital site in Oxford. The installation is situated at the top of the main stairwell beneath a skylight and comprises of twenty-two large pieces of glass, which are suspended on steel cables. The inspiration for the pieces is based upon the ginkgo leaf, as the ginkgo tree survived the atom bomb in Hiroshima and is an ancient tree surviving numerous natural disasters, the leaf was used as a fitting metaphor for a centre dedicated to survival. The pieces all have actual ginkgo leaves fused inside them.
